Knysna Cruises

No visit to Knysna is complete without a cruise on the Lagoon.

The Knysna Lagoon Basin spans approximately 400 sq km.

The S-shaped lagoon covers an area of up to 3.2 km wide and 12 km long and covers an area of approximately 17 sq km. The Lagoon is fed by a number of tributaries that flow mainly into the Knysna River, the chief source of the lagoon's fresh water. Tributaries include the Swartkops, Steenbras, Gouna, Rooi-els, Lelievlei, Witels, Palmiet, Dwars, Kruis, Ouboos and Lawnwood rivers.

The Featherbed Company
The Featherbed Company gives visitors to the Garden Route 'an unforgettable experience on the Knysna Lagoon'.

The Lagoon, more accurately defined as an estuary, has five fresh water rivers flowing in from the surrounding Outeniqua Mountains meeting with the surge of sea water from the Indian Ocean through the mighty headlands – known as the 'Knysna Heads' - the grand sandstone cliffs towering above the entrance to the Lagoon. more info...

Spring Tide Sailing Charters
Take a turn at the helm, or simply relax and enjoy your surroundings as we take a sunset cruise along the lagoon and out through the Knysna Heads. Toast the end of the day with a glass of bubbly while indulging in Knysna's famous home-grown oysters.

We are the only yacht to take you sailing through the Knysna Heads, out to the Indian Ocean and along the Knysna coastline. If the "bar" across the Heads is breaking we will be restricted to lagoon sailing. For guests who do not wish to go to the sea, we will happily sail in the lagoon. Light refreshment is included in this 2hr charter. more info...

Knysna Waterfront Ferries
Sailing to the Heads is a great experience but sailing through the Heads into the mighty Indian Ocean, well that’s a UNIQUE EXPERIENCE. Not many visitors to Knysna get to do this. Knysna Waterfront Ferries has acquired the catamaran Zakat which is licenced to take passengers through the Heads and out to sea (weather permitting).
