No visit to Knysna is complete without a cruise on the Lagoon.
The Knysna Lagoon Basin spans approximately 400 sq km.
The S-shaped lagoon covers an area of up to 3.2 km wide and 12 km long and covers an area of approximately 17 sq km. The Lagoon is fed by a number of tributaries that flow mainly into the Knysna River, the chief source of the lagoon's fresh water. Tributaries include the Swartkops, Steenbras, Gouna, Rooi-els, Lelievlei, Witels, Palmiet, Dwars, Kruis, Ouboos and Lawnwood rivers.
